While the components of the power system have always been uncertain and variable to some degree, the addition of wind and solar energy is increasing the need to directly manage these attributes in more sophisticated ways. Indeed, the growth of wind energy has served as a catalyst that is forcing us to develop the next generation of tools and practices for continued effi cient and reliable system operations. Wind is the fuel source for wind power plants, and because of the variability and complexity of the weather that creates the wind, wind power plants

A new approach to wind turbine power generation forecasting, using weather radar data based on Hidden Markov Model
The wind is one of the most important and affecting phenomena and is known as one of the significant clean resources of energy. Apart from other atmospheric parameters, the wind has complex behavior and intermittent characteristics. Local phenomena can be accompanied by the wind, which is strong, non-predicted, and damaging. Weather radars are capable of detecting and displaying storm-related ...
متن کاملAn Enhanced Support Vector Regression Model for Weather Forecasting
An attempt is made in this paper to develop an Enhanced Support Vector Regression (ESVR ) model with more un-interpretable kernel functions in the domain of forecasting the weather conditions. Every predicate model takes input data set parameters, processing with in specified levels of classification into variable sets and countered with a variable set reduction to reach the decision of predict...
متن کاملDiurnal Mountain Wind Systems
Diurnal mountain wind systems are local thermally driven wind systems that form over mountainous terrain and are produced by the buoyancy effects associated with the diurnal cycle of heating and cooling of the lower atmospheric layers. This chapter reviews the present scientific understanding of diurnal mountain wind systems, focusing on research findings published since 1988. Slope flows are e...
متن کاملWind and Solar Irradiance Gridded Data to Support Assessment of Renewable Energy Resources in Greece
Common practice suggests that the assessment of wind and solar energy resources is based on data obtained from existing weather stations operated by the national meteorological services and other public services. Usually, these stations are placed at populated locations (for example airports, ports, urban, rural and protected areas) to support weather analysis, forecasts and warnings, local wea...
متن کاملSimultaneous nested modeling from the synoptic scale to the LES scale for wind energy applications
This paper describes an advanced multi-scale weather modeling system, WRF–RTFDDA–LES, designed to simulate synoptic scale ( 2000 km) to smalland micro-scale ( 100 m) circulations of real weather in wind farms on simultaneous nested grids. This modeling system is built upon the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) community Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model. WRF has been en...
